How to Stop Your Dog From Jumping Up on People

Does your dog jump up on you, your children, or your guests when you walk through your door? This can be a very annoying, and potentially dangerous habit, and it can scare your guests that aren't used to be around dogs as well. Think about it, most people don't want to have a dog jump on them as soon as they get inside. It's just not pleasant. Not only that, but if you have a large dog, he could potentially knock over seniors, or really young kids. You don't want your dog to be responsible for giving a young kid a fear dogs.

There are a few different reasons why a dog will jump up on people. Dogs are insecure and it's important that they know they are safe when a stranger comes in to your home. They sometimes jump up on strangers to show their dominance and let them know that they are in charge. Dogs don't always jump on people out of dominance, though. Sometimes they will jump on people just out of playfulness. This is especially common with dogs that don't get many visitors, or dogs that are extremely hyper.

Dogs may also jump on people out of aggressiveness. This is by far the worst reason. A dog that is showing signs of aggression as a higher chance of hurting you or someone else, so it's important that you start correcting this behavior right away. Remember that if you try to show your dominance over him, then he can become violent.
